Chinese Delegation Visited SBETA
Twenty-one business representatives from various city and county offices in China visited SBETA on April 19th. They were grateful for the opportunity to visit and were interested in our achievements in workforce development. Their questions were centered around our job training programs, career center management and funding programs.

First Toastmasters Meeting
On January 25th a
new Toastmasters club met for the first time at SBETA. SBETA is hosting
and sponsoring the new club, that will meet every Thursday at 12:00 pm.
The Toastmasters club is off to a good start, there was a full house. Many
San Bernardino City employees attended the demonstration meeting along with
employees from San Bernardino Valley College and other local businesses.
If you're interested in improving your communication and leadership skills, come
join us.
SBETA Rapid Response Round Table
The City of San Bernardino One-Stop Career Center (SBETA) hosted the monthly Rapid Response Roundtable meeting on Thursday, January 18, 2007. Ernest B. Dowdy, Executive Director welcomed coordinators representing One-Stop Centers throughout Southern California.
Larry Scaramella, Southern CA Regional Advisor for the State of CA Employment Development Department (EDD), Norma McKay, (EDD), Ralph Zackheim, Department of Labor (DOL) were guest speakers.
Topics discussed were Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN), company layoffs and Workforce Investment Act issues.

Empowerment Fair
On January 12, 2007 the San Bernardino Employment and Training Agency participated in the Empowerment Fair sponsored by Supervisor Josie Gonzalez, Operation Phoenix, Young Visionaries and The County of San Bernardino Housing Authority. Community resources were provided to the Waterman Gardens community. There were 200 adults and children that came out despite the rare snow fall and cold weather. Residents gathered resources while the children played.
